e.GO building 10.000 electric cars in Aachen
German startup e.GO Mobile AG, spin-off from the RWTH Aachen University, will start building 10.000 units of it’s new e.GO city car on the former Philips site in Aachen from 2018 on. The car is a Smart-like 2+2 seat full electric vehicle that will cost around 16.000 euro and was developed by the team that also created the StreetScooter delivery vans for Deutsche Post.
According to professor Günther Schuh, CEO of e.GO Mobile, production will start from the second quarter of 2018 with a staff of 140 people. The e.GO city car is somewhat a mix between a Mini and a Smart. It weights 650 kg (without the 14,4 kWh battery) and is 3350 long, 1700 mm wide and 1570 mm high. With it’s range of approximately 140 km, it is meant for urban use mainly.
