Blablacar app starts partnership with Google Maps app
Carpooling has become an important means of transport for which users are willing to pay. As traffic jams are getting longer and costs for car ownership is rising, this kind of shared transport becomes more popular. That’s why Blablacar, a worldwide carpooling company with 45 million users, starts a partnership with the Google Maps app, besides NMBS/SNCB (Belgian railway company), TEC, De Lijn/STIB (bus company).
Reduce car costs
The Blablacar app is a service for private persons who are driving to a certain city and who want to share their course with other passengers who pay a small sum to reduce the car cost of the driver. For each ride both passenger and driver are identified by the app which also provides a safe money transfer. The passenger also pays a reservation fee to Blablacar.
Blablacar pays Google
This Blablacar service will be integrated in the Google Maps app. When users look for an itinerary on Google Maps they get an offer of the itinerary by conventional means of transport such as bus or train but as from now on they also get a carpool option offered by Blablacar. Users can see immediately the price for the ride. For Blablacar this is a great opportunity because Google Maps is known worldwide. The American giant wants to offer their users the best possible option for their journeys. Blablacar pays to be part of Google Maps.
Available in Belgium
Blablacar started in 2006 and is active in Europe, Russia, Brazil and Turkey. The Google partnership is available in Belgium and France and might be extended in the future in Russia, Brazil and Turkey, the countries where Blablacar is already operational.
