Brussels chooses electric articulated Solaris buses
Brussels public transport company MIVB/STIB has selected Solaris as supplier for 25 electric articulated buses. Solaris will also build the charging stations for the transport net. The new buses will appear in the streets of Brussels from 2019 on.
21 million euro
Solaris will deliver 25 articulated ‘opportunity charging’ buses with a low floor and fully powered by electricity. The agreement will run on a period of four years. Complete purchase price is 21 million euro (VAT excluded).
Practical operational experience
With the purchase of the buses MIVB/STIB proceeds its intentions to get more practical operational experience with this new technology. The 25 buses will be tested on the new future route of line 64, connecting Bordet to Naamse Poort. Each terminus will get two fast charging stations and there will be 25 charging stations for overnight charging in the carriage house.
MIVB/STIB already ordered 7 electric ‘overnight charging’ midi-buses at the same bus manufacturer. Bluebus, part of the Bolloré Group, on the other hand was selected to deliver 5 electric standard buses, also for overnight charging.
