French hardly pay traffic fines in Netherlands
According to information of the Dutch Ministry of Justice and Safety, the police and the Public Prosecutor, a significant number of French drivers don’t pay their traffic fines in the Netherlands. Of all countries participating in the exchange system of license plates France towers above all other countries in a negative way.
In only 56% of all cases the money actually is received, according to statistics of 2016. The same year the total amount of fined French drivers in Holland went up to almost 82.000.
9,2 million traffic fines
In most other participating countries the percentage of effectively paid fines is 70 tot 80%. In Belgium most – 88,5% – of all Dutch fines are paid. In general 95% of all traffic fines in the Netherlands and abroad are cashed.
9,2 million traffic infringements
In 2017 the total number of traffic infringements fined in the Netherlands was 9,2 million, a little less than the year before. More than one million of them were sent to an address outside the Dutch borderline. In 2016 the limit of one million was not exceeded yet.
Most drivers, 7,8 million, were fined for speeding, other fines, for using a smart phone while driving for instance, increased significantly: from 60.000 in 2016 to 75.00 in 2017.
