Spain introduces ‘female only’ night buses
Spanish cities Bilbao and Terrassa are planning to introduce special buses for night rides for women, with the possibility of stops on request, as was announced by the two mayors of the concerned cities. The initiative, which was approved end of January, is meant for women traveling alone at night and should diminish the risk of aggression.
In Nantes (France) and Bordeaux (France) similar initiatives were introduced since November 2017. In Bilbao, where they have already integrated the proposition in the regulations of the regional ‘Bilbobuses’, the city is working on it to make the plans concrete within a month.
The buses will not stop at request but, according to the spokesperson of collective transport, extra stops will be added.
