22 Belgian train stations get concrete protection blocks
Belgian railroad company NMBS/SNCB is planning to install concrete blocks at the entrance of 22 of the bigger railway stations in the country. “The preventive measure is meant to complicate access to the stations”, says NMBS/SNCB’s spokesman Bart Crols. He also stresses that there is no specific reason for it.
“The plan just is part of the safety measures taken together with authorities.” The Brussels South station already has similar concrete blocks, so-called ‘bollards’, at the entrance.
Later on NMBS/SNCB will replace the concrete blocks by retractable ‘bollards’, probably starting by autumn of this year. Several preparatory works will be necessary to steer the technical installations. Total budget for the project is 1,6 million euro, a budget that has been foreseen by the federal government.
