‘Mobile Monday’: 5.000 participants for alternative transport
Five thousand people have participated in ‘Mobile Monday’, an initiative of Flemish public transport company De Lijn. The idea is to choose for alternative transport instead of the car at least once a week to tackle traffic jams.
The company wants to encourage people to think about their commuting habits and traffic problems, and all ecologic, economic and psychological distress they cause.
5.000 participating commuters
The initiative was proposed on Tuesday and 5.000 Flemish commuters subscribed via the website www.mobielemaandag.be, as was communicated in a press release from De Lijn.
Time for action
“Flemish commuters realize that it’s time for action”, says Roger Kesteloot, managing director of De Lijn. “Together we can do something about the traffic jams and the surplus of cars on the road by choosing other means of transport. On Monday we can all take our responsibilities and we can motivate others to do so too.”
