Billy Bike: crowdfunding to double electric fleet in Brussels
The black and blue electric shared Billy Bikes are conquering Brussels and the initiators, Pierre de Schaetsen and Guillaume Verhaeghe, are planning a crowdfunding campaign to raise 125.000 euro to double their electric fleet.
“We started in September 2017 with 150 electric bicycles but we want to expand our offer. We’re planning to innovate our GPS system and we want to double the number of bikes. We’re even planning to double our range, from 12 to 24 square kilometres, mainly the hilly regions around Brussels: the city centre, Schaarbeek, Sint-Gillis, Elsene and Vorst.”
De Schaetsen and Verhaeghe are convinced that the electric bike is part of a solution for Brussels, not only for mobility reasons but also for the air quality. “People are fed up with all traffic jams and being stuck in the car for hours. They are looking for alternatives and the electric bike is the ideal solution, especially for the hilly regions around Brussels.”
Wait and see
Billy Bike wants to conquer other cities in Belgium, and even in Europa, as well. “The electric bike might not be the ideal solution for every city, but we’ll see. The funny thing about our concept is: we just take some bikes to a city and we wait and see. If it doesn’t work, we simply pick them up again and try elsewhere.”
