Asse to Brussels in 45 minutes by bike-highway
Commuting 15 kilometres from Asse to Brussels in 45 minutes, avoiding the daily traffic jams is possible now by using the F212 bicycle highway. Since 2012, infrastructure works have been executed, first on the part between the station of Asse and the Kruiskouter. By the end of 2017, the next phase started.
Complex construction works
The bicycle highway is situated next to the rail connection Dendermonde-Jette. The station of Zellik is integrated and the highway is running under the Brussels ring road through to Brussels, with a fork to the Zellik Research park.
Construction works were complex because of the vicinity of the railway, the Pontbeek and the numerous partners involved. A 2,5 km strip – 4 metres wide and completely lighted – was built in asphalt.
Connection to Brussels North station
Brussels Mobility Minister, Pascal Smet (sp.a) is happy with the project. “We have to persuade people living in the Brussels region to opt more often for the bike. It will be a great challenge in Brussels to provide the right infrastructure for it.” In the meantime, Smet has promised to extend the F212 to the Brussels North station.
