New ‘hobby’ in conservative US: nagging Tesla owners
Some owners of large pickups in the US have found a new hobby: nagging Tesla owners by occupying their parking spaces at Tesla charging stations. The news was announced by the website Greencarreports.com. The ‘hobby’ is called ‘ICEing’, referring to the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) they defend.
Progressive and elitist
Pictures on social media and several websites are showing how pickup trucks are blocking the reserved places at charging stations for electric cars, usually Teslas, while there is clearly enough parking space elsewhere.
Most incidents happened in conservative states, like North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas, where owners of electric cars are considered progressive and elitist.
No subsidy anymore
The last few weeks there is an increasing protest against electric cars in the US, with president Trump even adding fuel to the fire. When General Motors recently announced the closing down of several car manufacturing plants, among which the one producing the hybrid Chevrolet Volt, Trump tweeted that he doesn’t believe in the electric car. Meanwhile he abolished a subsidy for the electric car.
