17 automakers ask Trump not to relax emission norms
The manufacturers originally encouraged Trump to make the emissions standards set by the Obama administration less strict. But now they are concerned about the zealousness with which the new administration wants to dismantle them.
They fear that California and twelve other US States will go to court over laws that are too lenient. The result would be a divided and very complicated market in terms of pricing and model range.
This would be a nightmare for the automotive industry in the country. they fear “a long period of court battles and instability”.
But California, the US’s most populated state, and the White House are complete opposites when it comes to many subjects. Especially those concerning the environment or climate change.
Discussions to find a compromise had stated last year but were halted by the White House in February of this year.
