Skoda Belgium tries out multimodal mobility store
Skoda Belgium is branching out with a new ‘multimodal mobility store’ located in the Docks Bruxsel shopping district. Not only does it serve as a retail outlet for Skoda cars and merchandising, but the ‘Štore’ also showcases and sells Ahooga bicycles and electric mobility devices from Segway.
Proudly claiming to be a mobility specialist since 1895, Skoda is “taking the dealership experience to another level in Belgium”. Unlike the other retail points, the new Štore showcases clients all mobility solutions complementary to the car.
“No other manufacturer had ever before opened a retail store where it’s possible to obtain information on both vehicles and complementary mobility solutions,” says Karl Lechat, Skoda Belgium’s general manager.
The Štore is located at the heart of the city in the new Docks Bruxsel shopping district along the canal. Inside, clients find some cars of the Czech brand but also a range of foldable bicycles from the Belgian brand Ahooga. Other means of mobility from Segway are also available.
Clients can, therefore, be advised on the mobility solution combinations that would best suit their needs. D’Ieteren, the importer of all Volkswagen brands in Belgium, also takes the opportunity to showcase the Pickaway mobility app from its mobility incubator LabBox.
‘Not a pop-up’
“The Štore is some sort of laboratory. But, it’s in no way a pop-up store. It will stay open at least a year and if everything goes according to plan, and it’s profitable, it should still be there in five years. In that case, we could even open another one in Ghent, Liège or Antwerp in one or two years,” details the General Manager.
It’s also an opportunity for Skoda to showcase its products where potential clients are located. With the expansion of online shopping, fewer people are visiting dealerships.
Automotive sales techniques
Whatever the product sold, Skoda will employ its usual automotive sales techniques to advise the client better. Inside the Štore, smartphone’s IP addresses are scanned to see what interests the clients. Thermal imaging also helps to detect customer’s behavior.
To that, the brand will add its know-how of the automotive world, especially in terms of financing. D’Ieteren Finance will offer monthly financing for Ahooga bicycles. Useful for products with a 2.500 euro price tag.
