Number of grants for electric cars doubled

The number of applications for electric car grants in Flanders is steadily increasing. In the first half of 2019, there were 593 applications, compared to 415 during the entire last year. In total, the Flemish Region has paid out 2.230.216 euros.
The grants for electric cars were introduced in 2016, but have been lowered from 5.000 to 4.000 euros since then. For more expensive vehicles, the number decreased even further. The Flemish government recently announced the grant scheme is extended until the end of 2020.
Based on the grant applications, the most popular electric cars are the Nissan Leaf, the Tesla Model 3, and the Renault Zoe.
