Spain uses drones to detect traffic infringements
Spain is going to use drones to detect traffic infringements from Thursday. For the time being, three drones with a high-resolution camera will fly above the roads of the Canaries. Later, other drones will be deployed in different regions of the country.
Spain already had 11 drones to monitor traffic, but the country is going to order 20 extra units.
Several Chinese cities are also using drones to improve traffic safety, but in Europe, only Spain, France, and the United Kingdom are experimenting with them. In Spain, one police officer will steer the drone while another one will monitor the images.
The drones will be used to fine drivers for dangerous passing maneuvers, not wearing seat belts, using the smartphone while driving, and speeding.
