Dutch rail to experiment with ads on trains
The Dutch railway company, NS, is going to experiment with publicity on the trains. Today, the actual screens on the train mainly provide travel information, but soon they will show commercial messages. The ads will be seen on 137 of the 400 intercity trains, and the test phase will run until the end of this year.
The on-board publicity comes at the request of advertisers. With the screens on the trains, they can reach more than 5 million train travelers. According to NS, commercial spots will not interfere with travel information. That is precisely why the experiment is organized on the intercity trains because they don’t stop that often.
Publicity on the trains is not a new phenomenon. Train carriages used to have poster ads, but this kind of advertising is not coming back, ensures NS.
