Belgium: one out of three new cars sold is premium
According to the Belgian Automotive Sector’s Federation Febiac, one new car out of three sold in Belgium is from a premium brand. This important share is due to the significant number of premium company cars and the aggressive fleet policy from premium brands.
“The Belgian fleet car situation is quite specific for our small country. It’s a benefit for the employee. And, even if we’ve noticed a category drop lately, the phenomenon is still significant on our market,” explains Febiac’s spokesperson, Joost Kaesemans.
The reason for the success of premium brands in Belgium also lies in the breadth of their model range. Indeed, today premium brands don’t only make big saloon cars or SUVs. Their compact models often are the most popular, such as the BMW 1-series, the Audi A3 or A1, or even the Mercedes A-Class.
“I would add that premium car brands have a fleet policy so aggressive that generalist brands can’t cope. A fleet manager told me recently that he got a better offer from a premium brand than for another conventional one. So, he replaced his entire fleet,” adds Mr. Kaesemans.
