New tram between Neder-Over-Heembeek and Brussels
In Brussels, the route of the new tram line that will connect Neder-Over-Heembeek with the center of the capital has been unveiled. The route of this STIB/MIVB tram goes from the Military Hospital to Place Rogier. Stops include the Dockx Bruxsel shopping complex and the North Station.
The aim is to inaugurate the new tram line by 2025. Drafting the specifications and the execution of a mobility study will start this year. Permit applications are expected by the end of 2021. Work should then begin in early 2023.
The project closely involved residents, users, and companies in designing the route. A steering committee met five times between June and December 2019 to reach a consensus on the route. Civic participation will also be central in the construction of the tram line.
“We will set up a new citizens’ panel of local residents and traders to determine the profile of the road surface, the security of the intersections, the width of the footpaths, the construction of cycle paths, parking zones, green spaces, etc.,” says Brieuc de Meeûs, CEO of STIB/MIVB.
