Audi Brussels workers knock off work in fear of virus
Production of the e-tron at the Brussels Audi plant has come to a standstill on Monday morning as employees decided to knock off work in fear of the coronavirus. According to the socialist union, work circumstances don’t allow to keep safe distances, and there are no preventive measures.
“Employees are often working shoulder to shoulder, and when shifts are changing, some 3 000 people are crossing each other. These are not optimum working circumstances,” union man Grégory Descotte says.
That’s why several teams decided to lay down work at 6 a.m. It started in the logistics department and spread to the painting plant soon. By 10 a.m., total production was halted. Management and unions started talks, but so far, no solution was brought up.
