Transport sector asks for postponement of km tax
On Thursday, the Belgian Transport Federation UPTR has asked to postpone the payments of kilometer taxes. Due to the corona crisis, the number of trucks on the road has decreased by 30%. That is why the sector federation is asking for support measures.
Lack of assignments
According to figures of Viapass, today, there are about 100 000 trucks (-30%) on the road. “The situation for transport companies and other logistic partners is becoming an economical disaster,” UPTR says in a press release. “As a consequence of the emergency measures, there is a huge lack of assignments.” The sector is extremely sensible for shocks in the economy, the organization states.
Today the sector federation launches an urgent request to postpone the payments of kilometer tax. Apart from that, the organization asks the so-called ‘nuisance compensation’ of 4 000 euros for those who’ve seen a serious loss of activities.
When it comes to structural measures, the UPTR has a whole wish list as well. Longer times of payment, for instance, or a shorter delay (30 days max) for the payment of transport invoices to improve cash flow.
