Ford gives Mustang and Bronco on two wheels the reins

In the US, Ford has given the two-wheel ‘offspring’ of two of its most iconic cars, the 60-year-old Mustang and the Bronco, the reins: e-bikes with 750W hub-mounted motors providing 85 Nm of torque and assisted top speed of 45 km/h (28 mph). They’re the fruit of a partnership with N+, which has already created bikes with Mercedes-AMG, McLaren, and Red Bull Racing.

Excitement vs utilitarian commuting

“The electric Micromobility market is currently saturated with undifferentiated products that focus on a utilitarian commuting purpose instead of delivering rider excitement,” N+ states on its LinkedIn page.

“We believe Micromobility will go the same way as the motor vehicle over the last 100 years, inspiring the creation of famous marques such as the Ford Mustang, Mercedes-AMG, and McLaren F1 – iconic performance cars from brands that were motivated by a passion for driving performance.”

Going off-road with Bronco

The Bronco is the more ‘off-road’ version of the two, although technically, the differences are slight. This one has a longer saddle inspired by motorcycles and features a dual suspension system inspired by ‘G.O.A.T’ (Goes Over Any Terrain).

This 31 kg e-bike gets Grippy Pirelli Scorpion Enduro M hard wall 27.5″ x 2.6″ tires and four-piston hydraulic brakes for “superior braking performance and enhanced control.” A full-color LCD panel is integrated into the handlebars, providing real-time information, including speed, battery life, and range.

The range with the 720 Wh battery could be up to 60 miles (96 km), depending on the assistance required. Charging takes 3.5 hours. The Area 51 blue version costs $4,500 (€4,110), but riders can also pay an additional $390 to choose from 10 other colors.

60th Aniversary Edition

Marking the Mustang’s 60th anniversary, Ford introduces two Mustang bikes, including a limited-edition 60th Anniversary Edition model that is available exclusively through Ford dealers. This Mustang is Ford’s lighter ponyhorse and is slightly less expensive: $4,000 (€3,655).

This one is largely identical to the Bronco but has a regular bike seat instead of the ‘saddle’ and sleeker Pirelli Angel GT semi-slick tires. Of course, there is a classic Mustang badge and cute detail: a Mustang-style triple-bar tail light.
