Bicycle sharing is extremely popular in Ghent. This year, 657,843 trips have been made with a shared bike, more than the previous year. July was the busiest month ever, with 113,386 rides. A shared bike is a flexible, affordable, and convenient way to get around.
More and more shared bicycles are also being made available. Donkey Republic offers about 600 orange bicycles. Dott (blue) and Bolt (green) supply approximately 1,000 blue e-bikes together. Finally, Bluebike has around 300 shared bicycles, and another 55 will be added this month.
Special bikes
The Dégagé platform even offers all kinds of special bikes: cargo bikes and bicycle trailers for transporting loads or small children in the neighborhood, fast electric bicycles for slightly longer distances, mountain bikes and tandems, and folding bicycles for combined journeys by train.
Shared bikes can be found in several locations in the city center. Using a shared bike is easy, and most providers use an app. Download the app, find the nearest bike, unlock the bike, and—after using it—bring it back to a drop-off location. Some providers offer a subscription formula, while others ask to pay per hour, ride, week, or month.
