Hyundai-IVECO eLCV partnership debuts with eMoovy

At the IAA Transportation 2024 in Hannover, Hyundai launched the first vehicle from its global eLCV platform for European markets in partnership with the Italian multinational transport vehicle manufacturer, IVECO. The Iveco eMoovy combines Hyundai’s EV chassis-cab-based 800-volt platform with a cargo compartment from Iveco.

The Italian manufacturer of LCVs and trucks, Iveco and Hyundai, already found each other in 2022, signing a memorandum of understanding to develop green drivelines and the transition towards electrification and digitalization.

First in the mid-class segment

Since their partnership’s inception in 2022, Hyundai and Iveco have unveiled the first Iveco eDaily fuel cell electric vehicle (2022), followed by the Iveco BUS E-WAY H2 at Busworld 2023. In 2024, they announced a supply agreement for an IVECO-badged eLCV for Europe, based on Hyundai’s eLCV platform. They signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to explore electric heavy-duty truck solutions for European markets.

The first offspring in battery-electric light commercial vehicles (eLCV) of this ‘romance’ is this eMoovy, a mid-class light commercial vehicle (LCV) for the 2.5- to 3.5-tonne segment with a ten cubic meter load volume, only available as a chassis-cab combination.

The electric system underneath is carried over from Hyundai’s largest electric SUV, the Ioniq 9. The eMoovy has a 160 kW (215 pk) motor that delivers 350 Nm of maximum torque and is available with two battery options: 76 kWh or 63 kWh.

Range up to 320 km

The biggest battery promises a maximum range of around 320 km (WLTP). It inherits the smart battery management system (BMS) of Hyundai’s Ioniq EV lineup and premium Genesis brand.

Range figures for the smaller battery aren’t mentioned, but with a capability to charge up to 350 kW, adding 100 km of range shouldn’t take longer than 10 minutes. AC charging up to 11kW is standard, as is V2L (Vehicle to Load), with the possibility to plug in electric tools or a cooling unit, both inside and outside, at 230 V and up to 3,6 kW.

The cabin is a Hyundai design borrowed from its Staria MPV model. The dashboard has a digital 12.3-inch display, and the infotainment system has a 10.25-inch screen. Excellent driver comfort is provided by heated and ventilated seats, a heated steering wheel, air conditioning, and keyless entry and go.

It has various advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), such as Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Departure Prevention Assist, and Parking Distance Warning.
