In the city center of Namur, you can now take an e-shuttle for free. The shuttles replace the TEC buses, which have been unable to travel in the pedestrian zone since the beginning of May. The four shuttles are primarily intended for people who have difficulty getting around but are also available to everyone free of charge.
The 100% e-shuttles can carry 19 people each (ten seats). They have a removable access ramp for people with limited mobility, the elderly, and buggies. There is also an adapted area for wheelchair users.
Three shuttles run daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. to ensure a 15-minute frequency at each stop. On Saturdays, when downtown is busy, four will run, reducing the maximum wait time at one stop to ten minutes. On Sundays, the wait time will be 30 minutes, and the shuttles will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The shuttles make a loop with eight stops from the multi-modal station. However, the loop will be modified depending on the progress being made in expanding the pedestrian zone.
€650,000 per year
The main purpose of deploying the e-shuttles is to make the city center, where the pedestrian zone is currently expanded, quieter, with vehicles that are less polluting, less noisy, and less bulky.
The shuttle service in Namur is unique to Wallonia. Peeters in Hannut was awarded the service, which was financed with a budget of 650,000 euros per year for ten years.
The shuttles have a range of 210 km and can be fully recharged in four hours. Because they travel an average of 80 km daily, they do not need to be recharged during service hours. The shuttles are also equipped with an audible signal to warn pedestrians in case of danger.
