Driver’s license becoming less popular in Belgium

Fewer and fewer Belgian citizens are getting their driver’s licenses. Last year, about 120,000 people got their driver’s license, 9 percent less than in 2000. In Brussels, there is even a decrease of almost 27 percent.

The average age at which someone obtains his driver’s license has also increased by several months: from 21 years and 11 months in 2000 to 22 years and 5 months last year.

Average age above 25

In Brussels, the average age is 25 years and 5 months (+17 months compared to 2000); in Flanders, it is 22 years and 9 months (+9.5 months); and in Wallonia, it is 22 years and 3 months (-3.4 months).

Finally, the number of practical exams taken with a car with an automatic gearbox has increased by 316 percent to 11,550 in the first eleven months of 2023.
