D’Ieteren’s hyperchargers redefine speed and charging comfort

D’Ieteren Energy, the new energy arm of Belgian auto importer D’Ieteren, is steping into hypercharging with the unveiling of its innovative FusionCharger. This cutting-edge DC charging station, developed by Huawei, leverages liquid-cooled technology to deliver ultrafast charging capabilities and keep peak power available regardless the number of charging cars.

The FusionCharger was under demonstration at the Brussels Motor Show at the boot of D’Ieteren Energy, the new branch from the merger between charging provider EDI and the company’s subsidiary for solar energy Go Solar. The chargers come in two versions, offering 500 kW and 700 kW of power.

The more, the merrier

While most current EVs are not equipped to fully utilize such high charging capacities, the technology positions D’Ieteren Energy among the leaders ready to meet the demands of next-generation vehicles.

Industry targets aim to deliver 300 kilometers of range in as little as five minutes, a goal now closer to reality with the advent of these liquid-cooled ultrafast chargers. The FusionCharger aims at 200 kilometers in five minutes – still blistering fast.

But a trick in the FusionCharger’s sleeve sets it apart. Regardless of utilization (full or half), both charging cables attached can deliver peak performance. The innovation lies in the charger’s unique design, which integrates separated AC/DC and DC/DC modules.

Unlike conventional systems, this configuration ensures maximum power remains available even when multiple vehicles charge simultaneously. The efficiency gains make the FusionCharger particularly appealing to fleet operators and public charging networks where high usage is expected.

Silent and scalable

Furthermore, the charger’s liquid-cooled technology effectively dissipates heat, allowing the system to maintain these peak performances under heavy usage. This advanced cooling method also eliminates the need for traditional fan systems, making the FusionCharger nearly silent, which is ideal for noise-sensitive environments such as residential areas or office complexes.

D’Ieteren Energy emphasizes the system’s modular design. Charging capacity can be scaled up by adding modules to the base unit, ensuring future-proof flexibility as EV adoption and demand grow. Moreover, the charger can integrate directly with energy storage systems, offering a sustainable and adaptable solution for modern energy ecosystems.

Aimed at commercial use

With a price tag starting at approximately €70,000, the FusionCharger is primarily designed for businesses and public charging operators. Companies can benefit from significantly reduced vehicle downtime, and the system’s ability to support simultaneous high-performance charging could be a game-changer for fleets. But D’Ieteren Energy expects that public charging stations will also come equipped with FusionChargers, so private EV owners can also benefit.

In the Brussels Motor Show D’Ieteren corridors, CEO Denis Gorteman acknowledged that the Energy subsidiary could ultimately stretch beyond supplying operators and roll out its propriety network as a competitor to Sparki, Fastned, or Ionity. He sees interesting expansion potential in the South of Belgium, where the charging network remains underrepresented.
