Fastned goes for luxury toilets at its fast chargers in Belgium and The Netherlands

Fastned, the Dutch operator of EV charging stations, has signed a deal with One Hundred, an Amsterdam-based holding company, to provide high-quality toilet service at its charging stations in Belgium and the Netherlands.

For that matter, everyone may or can help pay as Fastned will also issue new bonds. The proceeds will be used to expand the network further in existing and new markets. Fastned currently has 346 operational charging stations across Europe.

First new toilet yet this spring

According to One Hundred, research shows that visitors to freeway service stations are increasingly looking for high-quality facilities to make the most of their waiting time or break. Together with Fastned, One Hundred will now respond to that need by offering jointly designed toilets for EV travelers and all road users in general.

The partnership between Fastned and One Hundred, known for turning the toilet visit into a micro-pause through, among other things, dynamic lighting scenes with different mood settings and a stylish design, will launch with new facilities at charging stations in Belgium and the Netherlands. The first of the new restroom solutions is set to open in the first quarter of 2025.

Fastned will partially fund the deal by issuing new bonds. Last year, Fastned raised more than 82 million euros from bond issues.

Growth profiles revised downward

According to Fastned, it is still well on its way to meeting its goal of 1,000 stations by 2030. However, at the same time, the company has become less optimistic about growth this year. After all, the number of EVs on the road is not increasing as fast as previously expected, and opening new charging stations takes longer.

Fastned previously counted on average sales of 400,000 euros per station in 2025, but the company is now adjusting that downward to just over 325,000 euros per station. Profit margins this year are also lower than Fastned expected when it presented its objectives two and a half years ago.

Back then, Fastned also counted on 400 fast-charging stations to be operational before the end of 2024. At the end of last year, the counter stood at 346 stations spread across the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Switzerland, and France.

At the same time, Fastned states that more and more EVs will be added in the coming years, which should bring the company further growth.
