Huawei has unveiled more images and information about its luxury saloon Maextro S800, which is set to compete with the Nio ET9 and German luxury EVs like the BMW i7 and Mercedes EQS in China. Some official, “real-life” photos and a video showing the S800 locating and connecting to a charger fully autonomously have been published.
To recall, Maextro is a collaboration between Chinese tech giant Huawei and car manufacturer JAC. The S800 will be the first fruit of this collaboration, a luxury saloon nearly 5.5 meters long, making it one of the biggest production cars on the road today. After unveiling the model late last year, Huawei has shared some more real-world pictures, while most of the technical details have also since been uncovered.

BEV or EREV with over 1,000 hp
The Maextro S800 will be available as a battery-electric vehicle (BEV) and an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV). A gasoline engine acts as a generator to increase the total driving range. Both variants will be very powerful, with three electric motors delivering 852 horsepower in the BEV and 1,006 horsepower in the EREV version.
Both powertrain variants will use an NMC battery from CATL. Still, only the EREV’s capacity has been published: 63.3 kWh, providing up to 371 km of range according to the Chinese CLTC homologation cycle. Other big numbers include the weight of 2,731 kg for the S800 BEV and even 2,859 kg for the EREV version.
Autonomous charging showcased in a video
Earlier in January, Huawei also shared a video of the Maextro S800 arriving at a charger, parking, and connecting to the robotic charging plug without any driver intervention. Maextro promises level 3 autonomy thanks to a roof-mounted Lidar unit and a slew of other sensors.
The Maextro factory, completed on December 16, is located in Hefei, near the JAC headquarters. Therefore, production should start soon. However, no official pricing has been announced yet, although experts expect a price of 1 to 1.5 million yuan (€132,500 to €199,000).
