Greentripper: ‘In 2024, travelers compensated 28,000 tons of CO2e’

Last year, travelers offset their air travel emissions by purchasing approximately 28,000 tons of CO2 equivalents (CO2e) through the Brussels-based climate consultancy agency Greentripper. The organization uses ‘CO2 equivalent’ because this takes into account all greenhouse gases, not just CO2.

According to Greentripper’s data, last year’s result is a status quo compared to 2023. The precise figures were 28,234 tons of CO2e in 2024, and 28,300 tons in 2023.

Who’s Greentripper?

Greentripper helps people calculate the CO2 impact of their (business) travels, reduce it, and offset its effects while supporting certified climate projects in developing countries and sustainable projects in Europe.

The organization aims to restore travel to its natural place by going beyond offset and co-creating extraordinary solutions with travelers and travel professionals to generate social and environmental benefits.

Calculate and compare

The tool on Greentripper’s site allows travelers to calculate their trips’ carbon footprint (CO2e ), compare it to alternative transportation options, and contribute financially to climate projects.

Thanks to Greentripper, people can take concrete actions toward sustainability by supporting certified climate projects. Private individuals contribute an average of 100 euros, which amounts to approximately 4 tons of CO2e.

Most contributions for air travel

The money they deposit is invested in climate actions, such as afforestation projects, to reduce the trip’s climate impact. Most online contributions, 70 percent, are made for air travel. The remaining 30 percent is divided between car impact, train travel, and accommodation.

Greentripper is an initiative by CO2logic, a Belgian organization among the pioneers in Europe. It assists companies in their efforts to reduce their carbon footprint and develop certified climate projects to ensure high-quality.
