Peugeot is taking the next step in its electrification strategy by introducing more powerful, all-wheel drive versions of its electric SUVs, the e-3008 and e-5008. A new five-seat variant of the e-5008 is set to debut, catering to customers who prioritize cargo space over passenger capacity.
Until now, Peugeot’s fully electric e-3008 and e-5008 have only been available with a single-motor, front-wheel-drive configuration. That is about to change.
As previously announced, the brand will launch all-wheel-drive versions of both models later this year. Initially rumored to offer 320 horsepower, Peugeot has confirmed that these versions will pack an upgraded 325 horsepower (239 kW) system output.
Important milestone for Stellantis
The dual-motor setup consists of an electric motor on each axle, but Peugeot is unsure whether it will be mated to both battery packs (73 or 97 kWh) or only in combination with one.
Peugeot has not disclosed specific details regarding acceleration figures, range, or torque outputs. However, these new versions mark an important milestone. They become the first all-wheel drive vehicles built on Stellantis’ STLA Medium platform.
Peugeot will open the order books for these AWD models in the coming month. Pricing details will be announced closer to the launch.
More cargo for e-5008
So far, the e-5008 has been exclusively available as a seven-seater, but Peugeot is now adding a five-seat variant for customers who prefer more storage space.
The five-seater model will boast a substantial 994-liter cargo capacity with the second-row seats in place. When the seats are folded down, this expands to an impressive 2,310 liters. The seven-seat version maxes out at 1,815 liters of cargo volume.
It remains unclear whether the five-seat option will extend to internal combustion and hybrid versions of the 5008, but given the market demand for versatile configurations, it seems likely.
Beyond the expanded lineup, Peugeot is implementing additional improvements to enhance the user experience of its electric SUVs. In the coming months, a new battery preheating system, integrated with the interior heating system, will be introduced.
This feature will optimize charging efficiency in cold temperatures by automatically preheating the battery when using the vehicle’s Trip Planner. This ensures that the battery is at an ideal temperature before arriving at a charging station, reducing charging times.
Above average
Peugeot’s electrification push in the SUV segment, with the 3008 model surpassing 120,000 global orders across all powertrain options, is deemed a success by the carmaker. Notably, 22% of these orders—approximately 26,400 units—are for the all-electric e-3008, which Peugeot claims exceeds the segment average.
Peugeot also remains committed to plug-in hybrid solutions. A new PHEV system for the 3008 is expected to deliver up to 85 kilometers of electric range.
