Bolt and Dott tackle wild parking of e-scooters and e-bikes in Brussels

Bolt and Dott, the only two operators selected by Brussels Mobility for shared bike and e-scooter services in the Brussels Capital Region, are joining forces to improve vehicle parking in the capital and reduce nuisance.

The joint initiative, to be implemented five days a week in the most sensitive or affected areas, should ensure more orderly parking in the sometimes-overcrowded drop-off zones, reduce disruption in public space, and ultimately improve the user experience.

Less nuisance

With the disappearance of shared e-scooter provider Voi – following a decision by the Brussels Court of First Instance – there are currently some 9,000 shared e-scooters in Brussels. Previously, there were 20,000, and later, 12,400.

Although overcrowded drop zones and nuisances for other users of the public space have not disappeared everywhere, things have improved remarkably since the introduction of new and stricter rules and a new regulatory framework.

Bolt and Dott also state that. According to them, between December 2024 and the end of January 2025, the number of improperly parked e-scooters fell by 63%. In six months, the proportion of correctly parked e-scooters in designated drop zones increased by 10%.

Various initiatives

By now working together, the two operators aim to ensure an even “smoother and better organized public space.” For example, they will patrol together to ensure that the rules regarding the proper parking of e-bikes and e-scooters are more strictly enforced.

Both operators are also implementing other initiatives that should lead to efficient shared mobility with respect for all users of the public space.

Dott users receive specific training upon registration, complemented by regular awareness campaigns. A monitoring system has also been introduced: at the end of each trip, users must take a photo to confirm that their vehicle is parked correctly. Failure to comply with designated drop zones results in a fine.

For its part, Bolt has launched its Smart Parking 360 system, which uses AI to analyze parking photos to ensure compliance. Through the Capacity Check feature, users are also directed to nearby drop zones that are less full.

With CityFix, users can also report infrastructure problems directly through the app, helping to improve urban mobility. With Bolt, users can also be trained on proper parking and driving practices, enhancing safety and public order.
