BMW’s updated iX with +700 km range rolls of production line

The BMW iX has been the German carmaker’s longest-running fully electric model since 2021 and has sold over 130,000 units worldwide. It’s time for an update and the start of production at the BMW Group plant in Dingolfing.

BMW promises 25% more drive power and improved efficiency, resulting in a 701 km (WLTP) range for the BMW iX xDrive60, making it “the most long-range electric model in the BMW Group’s portfolio and the company’s most important all-electric new model in 2025—before the “New Class” makes its debut at the end of the year.”

New exterior colors

You won’t see much difference by its looks, as the major ‘enhancement’ on the outside are a new color scheme with Arctic Race Blue metallic, Dune Grey metallic, Carbon Black metallic, BMW Individual Frozen Deep Grey metallic, BMW Individual Frozen Pure Grey metallic, Tanzanite Blue metallic and Space Silver.

For those with extra money to spare, the BMW iX is now available with the M Sport package and M Sport Pro package for the first time, enhancing its sporty appearance both inside and out.

BMW says the iX plays a crucial role in the company’s model program for all-electric midsize and upper-class SAVs. Four electric models, the BMW iX, the BMW i7, and the all-electric versions of the 5 Series sedan and Touring, are produced in the Dingolfing factory.

The latest J.D. Power 2025 US Electric Vehicle Experience (EVX) Ownership Study revealed a marked increase in EV owner satisfaction, with BMW emerging as the undisputed leader in the premium segment.

Highest EV owners satisfaction

The BMW iX secured the highest satisfaction score among electric vehicle (EV) owners, followed closely by the BMW i4, underscoring the brand’s dominance from the EU to the US.

Interestingly, BMW’s success is mainly attributed to its focus on customer education. “First-time EV buyers are receiving minimal education or training,” said Brent Gruber, executive director of J.D. Power’s EV practice.

“Dealer and manufacturer representatives are the front-line educators, but when it comes to EVs, the necessary education to shorten the learning curve isn’t happening often enough.” BMW’s Genius program, modeled after Apple’s Genius Bar, has played a critical role in enhancing customer understanding and satisfaction.
