As we wrote yesterday, the Zeekr 7X is launched in Europe as a trump card in the mid-size SUV segment. In China, the Geely daughter will also deliver this car’s shooting brake variant on the same 800V platform, the 007 GT, starting April 20th. In Europe, that one will be named simply Zeekr 7GT.
Geely sees this second model after the 001, where it all started with, as the ‘technology shooting brake’ for its premium brand, while the emphasis in the 001 is more on luxury. Of that first one, Zeekr delivered just under 100,000 units last year, 45% of its total sales.
Luxury taken for granted
This one starts at 202,900 yuan (€24,389), which is even cheaper than the 259,900 tag (€31 241) on the 001 and can make things hot for competitors like the BMW i5. To give an idea of what that could mean in European prices, in the Netherlands, where the 001 has been on sale since 2023, it starts at €59,490 compared to € 73,454 for a BMW i5 Touring.
Luxury might not be the main emphasis on the new shooting brake that looks pretty much like its 001 siblings with its 69° fastback-style tailgate; still, it’s packed with all the luxury items we see in the X7 today. Like Nappa leather, all seats have heating, ventilation, and massage functions, for instance.
No smart light panel in its nose
This shooting brake measures 4,864 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,460 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,925 mm. The 001 is just a shade longer, 4,977 mm. In China, there is also a 007 sedan version, but the shooting brake delivers more storage space and a sportier look.
Like the sedan, the 007GT gets China a massive 90-inch integrated smart light panel in its nose. This panel can display messages for the outer world, like pedestrians, a feature the Chinese love. The European GT won’t have that, as EU legislation forbids prioritizing pedestrian protection in case of an accident.
This model version is a plus point for Europe, where brakes or ‘touring’ versions have always been a popular SUV alternative for families. Zeekr wants to position this 007GT more as a technology showcase, as it wants to attract people in the premium segment who embrace e-technology rather than loyalty to a specific brand.
Bragging with performance
But it’s no secret that it also hopes to lure away some petrol heads from German premium brands with performances only available in BMW-M or Mercedes-AMG sport variants at twice that price.
With the same underpinnings as the 2.5-ton 7X SUV, this lighter shooting brake promises to do just that. With even a bit more power of 475 kW (636 hp) and 710 Nm of torque, the 007 needs only 2.95 seconds to shoot from 0 to 100 km/h.
That’s almost a second faster, although the chance you’ll feel that difference is non-existent. Not to mention that you unlikely would need such performance in daily traffic jams, but it looks good when you love to brag with your Swedish-Chinese car against your friends with their Beemers. And that for a price (in China) of 232,900 yuan or some 27,934 euros.
The two lower-priced variants of the Zeekr 007 GT have single motors with a peak motor power of 310 kW and 440 Nm of torque. They accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds, which is still more than fast enough.
Blazing-fast charging
By inheriting the same platform as the 7X, this 007GT also gets the 800-volt architecture with all its benefits, like the in-house-developed Golden Battery and ultra-fast 5C charging. That means going from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 10.5 minutes.
The Zeekr 007 GT uses lithium ternary batteries from CATL, in addition to its own 100 kWh Golden Battery in the top versions. The 75 kWh LFP battery provides a CLTC range of 650 km.
The longer-range 100-kWh nickel cobalt manganese (NCM) battery is 825 km (CLTC). That would still be somewhere above 630 km in European WLTP standards. With those ranges, you can get anywhere you want.
