Toyota is set to launch an estate car version of its all-electric SUV model, the bZ4X, next year. It will be called the BZ4X Touring and will be 14 cm longer than the standard car. Its European launch is planned for the first half of 2026.
The bZ4X Touring features 33% more trunk space than the regular model, with 600 liters of storage. According to Toyota, the variant is intended to be a spacious family vehicle and “the ideal companion for an active lifestyle.”
Three years ago, Toyota launched the bZ4X, its first all-electric model after years of focusing on hybrid drivetrains. The original mid-size SUV had a 150 kW FWD or an AWD system combining two 80 kW electric motors. At launch, the battery had an energy capacity of 71.4 kWh. In terms of range, the FWD version had a range of up to 516 km, with the AWD pushing 470 km.
A few months ago, Toyota significantly expanded its presence in the all-electric segment and introduced three SUVs: the new Urban Cruiser, debuting at the Brussels Motor Show, the new full-electric C-HR+, and a revised and improved bZ4X.
The American version of the C-HR+, called C-HR BEV in North America, has just been presented across the Atlantic and is expected at dealerships in early 2026. A price tag hasn’t been announced yet.
More space and power
With this Touring version, Toyota is joining the restrained but growing group of manufacturers who still believe in the future of estates. It is 4.83 m long and 1.67 m high, and the boot space is 600 litres. The space can easily and conveniently expand thanks to the 40:60 split folding rear seat. The maximum towing capacity of the bZ4X Touring is 1,500 kilograms.
As with the bZ4X, customers can choose between front-wheel and all-wheel drive with the Touring version. The targeted maximum power for the front-wheel drive model is 165 kW, while the all-wheel drive bZ4X Touring is expected to be the most powerful Toyota electric model on the market, with 280 kW/380 hp on tap.
In both drive variants, the new bZ4X Touring features a lithium-ion battery with a gross capacity of 74.7 kWh and, depending on the version, an 11 kW or 22 kW onboard charger.
The maximum fast charging capacity (DC) is 150 kW. The maximum WLTP range is expected to be 560 kilometres, although homologation has not yet been completed.
A new water cooling and pre-conditioning system can be activated manually or automatically when approaching a rapid charging station to improve performance and charging times. This ensures the battery is at the optimal temperature at the start of charging, particularly useful in colder climates.
The eAxles (electric drive axles) utilize new silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductors and operate with greater efficiency and higher performance, while being lighter and more compact. Toyota’s Battery Care Program guarantees the battery for 10 years or 1 million kilometers driven if the owner goes for the yearly EV Health Check at the dealer.
More adventurous
Compared to the bZ4X, the new Touring model boasts a more rugged, adventure-inspired look. Several styling details, like the black wheel arches, rims, and roof rails, support this. The most significant visual changes concern the extended rear end of the vehicle, which features a new lower bumper and LED taillights with a different look.
Inside, there’s a new center console for easy access to digital devices and a redesigned instrument panel with a standard 14-inch multimedia display. A dedicated navigation function automatically selects a route with recommended, convenient charging stations based on the vehicle’s current battery charge level and remaining range.
The bZ4X Touring will launch in Europe in the first half of 2026. Toyota has not yet announced pricing. Further details about performance and technology will then also be released.
