Rainer Zietlow, a 55-year-old man from Mannheim (Germany), wants to prove that you can get anywhere with an electric car and that you can even travel around the world with it. His goal is to break the world record for the number of countries he visits in a single trip with an electric vehicle. He intends to travel through 75 countries with a Volkswagen van, an ID.BUZZ, starting from the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles customer center in Hannover.
The journey will take Zietlow on the eastern part of the route to New Zealand and then on to Vancouver, Canada, on the western part. Where there are roads, the car will drive. Only the sea crossings and the necessary stops for customs clearance will interrupt his trip—the ID. The Buzz World Tour will last over eight months.
Qatar
Zietlow is not new to this journey, having previously undertaken similar expeditions with his previous ID. BUZZ, a journey that took him to more than 110 countries, including Qatar. He has been preparing for this new trip for about a year.
The globetrotter can count on extensive professional support. Support from, among others, Volkswagen commercial vehicles as the manufacturer of the ID. The availability of spare parts for the ID. Buzz is also assured in case of an emergency.
Inspirational trip
“With his journey, Rainer and his team will certainly inspire many people to make the switch to a fully electric vehicle,” said Lars Krause, member of the Brand Board of Management at the start in Hannover.
Interested parties can follow Rainer Zietlow’s adventures, find his current location, and read reports from previous parts of the route on his website, www.idbuzz-worldtour.com.
