New fares at TEC in Wallonia from February

The Walloon public transport company TEC is reforming its fare structure from February 1st. A single price on the classic lines will replace the zone fares. There will also be an indexation of 2.15%.

The current ‘Next’ and ‘Horizon’ tickets will be merged into a single ‘Classic’ ticket that is valid for 90 minutes on the entire network, except for the Express lines, bus lines with fewer stops, and faster connections between cities.

The new ticket will cost €2.80, compared to €2.20 for the current Next ticket and €3.10 for the Horizon ticket. A ticket for the network, including the 31 Express lines, will become more expensive: from €5.10 to €5.50.

Historic

“This simplification is historic, as zone fares have been in place since TEC was founded,” says marketing and communications director Stéphane Thiery. “It is also necessary to enable card payments on buses, trams, and the metro.” This should be possible by 2027.

There will also be a single fare for season tickets: €420 per year on the classic network or €710 for the Express network for adults paying the full price.

The €12-per-year season tickets for 18- to 24-year-olds and people over 65 will remain in place, even though the new Walloon Minister of Mobility, François Desquesnes (Les Engagés), initially opposed maintaining that advantageous fare for young people.
