Among the many concept and production vehicles from traditional car manufacturers present at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, there’s also a booth from… TV and household appliance maker Sharp. The Japanese company has unveiled its second interpretation of an electric car that serves as an addition to the household, rather than just a means of transportation.
Sharp first unveiled its LDK+ EV concept car in 2024, a compact MPV that offered living room-like comfort and the ability to communicate with smart appliances. Now, at the international car show in Tokyo, the appliance manufacturer has unveiled the updated LDK+, built in collaboration with Foxconn.
Foxconn platform, Sharp interior
The 2025 Sharp LDK+ is based on Foxconn’s Model A architecture, with a compact, boxy body (4.3 meters long) that offers a spacious interior. No further performance specs have been given, other than that it’s electric. But that’s not really the primary purpose of the LDK+. In fact, driving the car at all seems secondary.

Comfortable lounge rather than a transport method
Sharp wants you to experience the comfort of your own home, but from the garage. The LDK+ could serve as a second (or temporary) living room, thanks to its reclining and swiveling chairs, projector screen, and AI-based connectivity.
It can also serve as a second power source for the home. The LDK+ is equipped with solar batteries and can communicate with smart appliances, such as your washing machine or air conditioning system, to more efficiently manage the flow of electricity between your home and the car. Think of it as a home battery with extra brain power.

Just a thought exercise, or are there more plans?
As for any production plans, Sharp remains tight-lipped. The Foxconn platform that it’s based on should be ready for production by 2027, but it remains to be seen if the appliance manufacturer dares to enter the auto industry at such a delicate time. But perhaps there’s a less risky way of entering the ring as a supplier.
