Almost <\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">30 000 drivers \u2013 29 643 to be precise \u2013 were fined, an increase of almost 60% compared to 2022. <\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">In 2020, 12 321 fines were issued; in 2021, this amounted to 16 642 fines.<\/span><\/p><p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">An explanation for the sharp increase in the number of fines is the tightening of the measures. <\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">On January 1st, 2022, the LEZ rules were tightened: diesel vehicles with Euro standard 4 (or lower) were no longer allowed in the zone.
