Trova, a Belgian start-up based in Lommel, is trying to attract investors to scale up its retrofitting business, converting used diesel trucks to electric vehicles.<\/p>\n

The time is now, according to CEO Jan Bracke, as diesel prices are soaring<\/a> due to the conflicts in Iran and the Middle East, making even converted e-trucks economically viable.<\/p>\n

Trova was founded in 2021 by industry veterans Patrick Collignon, Paul Kegels, Jan Bracke, Jean-Marie Van Brussel, Patrick Coulier, and Michel Van den Broeck. The company sells converted diesel trucks with its own technology and type approval.<\/p>\n

V02 already underway<\/h4>\n

The first Trova truck was delivered to Ninatrans last year. This V01 model is based on a previous-gen Volvo FH 44-ton tractor.<\/p>\n

Trova has fitted the truck with a 186 kWh NMC battery pack and a 345 kW (469 hp) motor, with a driving range of around 140 km, which is enough to suit Ninatrans’ needs.<\/p>\n

But improvements are already underway. The second iteration of the Trova truck will feature improved noise insulation, a longer range of around 350 km, fast charging capability, and specific type approval, making the registration process easier for subsequent vehicles.<\/p>\n

A third cheaper than a new e-truck<\/h4>\n

Trova’s converted e-trucks will cost around \u20ac200,000 each, about a third lower than a brand-new electric truck, which costs around \u20ac300,000. With diesel prices rising, this could tip the TCO calculation in Trova’s favor.<\/p>\n

Right now, Trova is looking for investors to start series production of its converted trucks. The initial goal is to increase production from one vehicle per month to one per week.<\/p>\n

Long-term, Trova wants to convert 4,000 trucks per year. And with a bigger volume comes a better negotiating position with battery suppliers, potentially lowering prices even further.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
