On March 25th, 2026, the Belgian-based dredging company DEME celebrated the naming of its next-generation wind turbine installation vessel ‘Norse Wind’. The celebration, which was held at the Port of Oslo,\u00a0marks a significant addition to DEME’s offshore installation fleet.<\/p>\n

Prior to the naming ceremony, DEME was honored to welcome Their Majesties the King and the Queen\u00a0of the Belgians, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs, and Development Cooperation Maxime Pr\u00e9vot, and\u00a0Minister-President of the Government of Flanders, Flemish Minister for\u00a0Economy, Innovation and Industry, Foreign Affairs, Digitalization and Facility Management Matthias Diependaele aboard\u00a0Norse Wind.<\/p>\n

Their joint presence underscored the strong and enduring ties between Belgium and Norway and highlighted both nations’ shared commitment to advancing offshore wind.<\/p>\n

Norse Wind<\/h4>\n

Norse Wind will transport and install the next generation of wind turbines and XXL monopiles in water depths of up to 70 meters. The vessel\u00a0will soon set sail for the North Sea, where it will, in the coming years, transport and install Vestas offshore wind turbines on, among others, the\u00a0Nordseecluster project, a joint offshore wind development by RWE and Norges Bank Investment\u00a0Management.<\/p>\n

Norse Wind combines advanced technology with a strong focus on energy efficiency. The vessel is equipped with a powerful 3,200-ton crane and is purpose-built to transport and install next-generation wind turbines and XXL monopiles in water depths of up to 70 meters.<\/p>\n

Highly efficient<\/h4>\n

With the capacity to carry either four 20 MW turbines or six 15 MW turbines,\u00a0Norse Wind can transport and install significantly more power per trip than smaller vessels. This should result in highly efficient project executions.<\/p>\n

The design incorporates a hybrid power plant and a 4.2 MWh battery system that mitigates energy peaks and reduces diesel engine load, improving fuel efficiency and lowering\u00a0emissions.<\/p>\n

Together with its sister vessel, Norse Energi, Norse Wind\u00a0will play a central role in delivering some of the world\u2019s largest offshore wind projects, and it will further strengthen DEME\u2019s leading position in the global offshore energy market.<\/p>\n
