<\/p>\nSubaru pulled the wraps off its largest and most powerful electric vehicle yet at the 2026 New York Auto Show. The Getaway is a seven-seat SUV that blends family needs with the brand’s trademark all-terrain credentials.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s a strictly North-American affair that, despite the adversary context for electric mobility in the region, relies entirely on battery power.<\/p>\n
The Getaway is Subaru’s fourth EV and by far its boldest and strongest. Two electric motors deliver 420hp combined, making it the most powerful production Subaru ever built. The run from 0-60 mph takes under five seconds.<\/p>\n

The Getaway lives up to its roadtripping name by offering Symmetrical AWD standard across every trim level. As Subaru lacks the expertise and the funds to develop its own EVs, the platform and technology are shared with the Toyota Highlander EV. Still, the Getaway differentiates with its own styling and a significantly higher power output: the AWD Highlander EV develops just 338 hp. Both sister models are assembled at Toyota’s Georgetown, Kentucky, plant.<\/p>\n
The launch configuration uses a 95.8 kWh battery with a claimed range of 482 km, which is not exceptional for this battery size\u2014charging peaks at 150 kW, covering 10-to-80% in around 30 minutes.<\/p>\n
A battery preconditioning system maintains charging performance down to -10\u00b0C. A more affordable 77 kWh standard-range variant arrives later, but – as mentioned – doesn\u2019t shed the AWD technology.<\/p>\n
The off-road kit includes X-MODE with Snow\/Dirt and Deep Snow\/Mud settings, Grip Control, and 21 millimeters of ground clearance, more than most electric rivals in this category.<\/p>\n

As a competitor to the popular Kia EV9, the Getaway offers seating for six or seven, with more cargo space when the cozy third row is stowed.
