The ID. Buzz, Volkswagen’s funky electric minivan, is getting a Summer update that adds features introduced in other MEB platform models recently. The electric bus is set to gain V2L functionality, an updated Travel Assist system, one-pedal driving, a new infotainment system and a more comprehensive model range.<\/p>\n

Since its launch in 2022, the Volkswagen ID. Buzz has stayed up to date with regular improvements<\/a>. A 7-seater long-wheelbase version was added to the range in 2023<\/a>, while a sporty GTX variant<\/a> introduced four-wheel drive to the electric bus offering. Now, the ID. Buzz is becoming even more practical thanks to the newest software version of the MEB platform.<\/p>\n

Better ergonomics and new Android-based infotainment<\/h4>\n

To start, the interior of the VW ID. Buzz has been revamped with a new steering wheel and infotainment system. The steering wheel actually goes back to an ‘older’ generation, with physical buttons replacing capacitive touch buttons to improve ergonomics.<\/p>\n

The infotainment system is now the ‘Innovision’ system, based on Android Automotive and capable of installing external apps. It was first introduced in the ID.3 Neo<\/a>, unveiled last week.<\/p>\n

Connected Travel Assist and V2L<\/h4>\n

Additionally, the ID. Buzz’s driving assist system has been upgraded to Connected Travel Assist. Thanks to online data, the semi-autonomous driving system has become more comprehensive. It now also reacts to traffic lights, coming to a standstill at a red light when there is no car in front. A new one-pedal driving mode has also been added thanks to a second ‘B’ regeneration mode for the drive selector.<\/p>\n

Campers and roadtrippers will also be pleased to know that the ID. Buzz is getting V2L (vehicle-to-load) functionality. It can supply up to 2 kW of power from the high-voltage battery to external electrical devices, from e-bikes to electric grills or simply a multi-plug adapter to use on the campsite. Unfortunately, the V2L function only works through an adapter on the external charging socket, not via a standard plug in the interior.<\/p>\n

4Motion now also available on the Pro model<\/h4>\n

Finally, the Volkswagen ID. Buzz model range is also becoming more comprehensive thanks to the addition of the Pro 4Motion variant. This adds the GTX’s 340-hp dual-motor drivetrain to the ‘regular’ model, lowering the base price of the four-wheel drive option.<\/p>\n

This is especially interesting for towing, as the 4Motion variant can tow up to 1,800 kg (1,600 kg for the LWB), compared to just 1,000 kg for the rear-wheel drive ID. Buzz variants.
