Volvo EV owners in Europe are getting a meaningful charging improvement while traveling longer distances. Starting in the autumn of this year, drivers will be able to access, initiate, and pay for sessions at Tesla Supercharger stations without the need for a separate app.<\/p>\n
No, Tesla allowing rival brands to its Supercharger network in Europe is not new. They have been allowed for several years, as European regulations mandate interoperability. What changes is the user experience.<\/p>\n
Volvo drivers will now find Supercharger locations alongside the rest of the charging network in their own app or on the navigation screen in Google Maps. They can check real-time availability and pricing and process payment through their Volvo account. The same way they already manage sessions at other public chargers.<\/p>\n
This removes the need for a dedicated Tesla app. Easy as that.<\/p>\n
The rollout covers more than 20,000 Supercharger stations across 29 European countries, including Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Norway, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy, and Spain, among others.<\/p>\n
North American Volvo drivers already have this capability already today, with access to over 120,000 charging points, including Superchargers via the app. Europe now follows.<\/p>\n
“Volvo drivers already have access to over three million charging points globally through the Volvo app – including 1.2 million across Europe alone,” said Alejandro Castro P\u00e9rez, Head of Energy Solutions at Volvo Cars. “Adding Tesla Superchargers in Europe means they now have even easier access to one of the most recognized fast charging networks.\u201d<\/p>\n
All current Volvo BEV models are compatible, thanks to their native CCS2 charging ports. That includes the EX30, EX40, EC40, EX60, EX90, and ES90. Plug-in hybrid models are excluded because their Type 2 connectors support only AC charging and are not compatible with the CCS2 inlet required for DC fast charging at Supercharger stations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
