Following their launch in the United Kingdom, Norway, and Switzerland last year, MG Motor will also introduce its two fully electric IM models with 800-volt architecture in Belgium, France, Germany, and the Netherlands. The electric MG IM5 saloon and MG IM6 crossover SUV are scheduled to arrive in July. Prices have not yet been announced.<\/p>\n

IM Motors was founded in 2020 by Chinese companies SAIC, Alibaba, and Zhangjiang Hi-Tech. Two years later, the joint venture began series production of its first electric model, with the first vehicles subsequently entering the Chinese market. In Europe, the brand debuted in 2024 at the (last) Geneva Motor Show. However, sales only commenced in July 2025, initially in the UK, followed by Norway and Switzerland.<\/p>\n

One year later, the brand is preparing to enter additional European markets. From July, the IM electric vehicles will launch simultaneously in Belgium, France, Germany, and the Netherlands. In Europe, SAIC will position IM Motors as a premium sub-brand under the MG Motor umbrella rather than as a standalone manufacturer.<\/p>\n

‘Intelligence in Motion’<\/h4>\n

IM stands for ‘Intelligence in Motion’. Under the MG label, the company aims to offer premium electric vehicles with advanced drivetrains, batteries, software, and driver-assistance technologies.<\/p>\n

The IM5 is a battery-electric saloon measuring 4.93 meters in length, while the IM6 is a 4.90-meter electric SUV. Unlike previous MG models, the IM vehicles are based on an 800-volt architecture. Both models offer power outputs ranging from 300 to 553 kW.<\/p>\n

The vehicles use a 100 kWh battery with NMC cell chemistry and are expected to achieve ranges of up to 655 kilometers under the WLTP cycle. Fast charging can be up to 350 kW, resulting in a 10-80% battery charge in 17 minutes. MG has not yet released detailed specifications for the individual variants.<\/p>\n

Different from the UK?<\/h4>\n

Specifications in the UK market show that ranges and drivetrain layouts can vary considerably across models and variants. There, MG quotes WLTP ranges of up to 710 kilometers for the IM5 and up to 625 kilometers for the IM6.<\/p>\n

For the IM6, the 300 kW version uses rear-wheel drive, while the 553 kW model features all-wheel drive. In Germany, however, MG Motor Deutschland is expected to offer only all-wheel-drive variants of the IM5, provided the 100 kWh versions referenced in the German announcement remain the only option. Which variants and range figures MG will ultimately introduce in the EU remains unclear.<\/p>\n

In the UK, MG additionally offers the IM5 with a 217 kW rear-wheel-drive powertrain and a 75 kWh LFP battery. This variant is not mentioned in the current EU announcement. MG has so far referred exclusively to a 100 kWh battery with NMC cell chemistry. Whether additional battery or drivetrain variants will follow remains to be seen.<\/p>\n

More premium<\/h4>\n

Among the additional technical features, MG Motor highlights rear-wheel steering for the all-wheel-drive variants. In the MG IM5, this reduces the turning circle to 9.98 meters. \u201cAdvanced driver-assistance systems and intelligent vehicle software elevate comfort, safety, and connectivity to a new level,\u201d the company stated.<\/p>\n

MG also points to a range of interior features, including a ventilated 12-way electrically adjustable driver\u2019s seat with memory function, a 6-way electrically adjustable front passenger seat, a 26.3-inch display, a 50-watt wireless charger, and a 20-speaker audio system.<\/p>\n

With IM, MG is expanding its European portfolio to include premium electric models. The IM5 and IM6 are set to focus more on charging performance, software, driver-assistance systems, and comfort than the existing MG electric vehicles in Europe. However, pricing will also be a decisive factor: MG plans to announce prices and the exact variant structure at a later date. The two models will effectively be launched in the showrooms of the countries concerned this summer.<\/p>\n
