{"id":188056,"date":"2026-06-18T11:17:44","date_gmt":"2026-06-18T09:17:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/?p=188056"},"modified":"2026-06-18T11:17:44","modified_gmt":"2026-06-18T09:17:44","slug":"private-player-buys-land-from-bus-manufacturer-van-hool-for-21-5-million-euros","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/en\/2026\/06\/18\/private-player-buys-land-from-bus-manufacturer-van-hool-for-21-5-million-euros\/","title":{"rendered":"Private player buys land from bus manufacturer Van Hool for 21.5 million euros"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We recently reported that the bankrupt <span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">bus manufacturer <a href=\"https:\/\/newmobility.news\/en\/2026\/06\/08\/van-hool-land-sale-becomes-test-case-for-flanders-industrial-ambitions\/\">Van Hool<\/a> from Koninkshooikt (Lier, Belgium) had put a 30-hectare business expansion site up for sale, and that the Flemish government was participating in the bidding process.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the meantime,\u00a0<span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">the bidding period has ended and the land in Lier <\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">has been sold for 21.5 million euros.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Flanders was interested but ultimately did not become the buyer. <\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">That is what Minister-President Matthias Diependaele has just announced. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">The <\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">price was set at 20 million euros, and the Flemish government indeed offered 20 million euros, but the buyer, who is currently unknown, has exceeded that amount. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Considerable interest<\/h4>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Shortly before the bidding ended, it turned out that there was considerable interest in the land. Biddit registered a total of<\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\"> seven bids for the Van Hool grounds, <\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">including one from the Flemish government. The Prime Minister sees the market interest as a hopeful signal that Flanders remains attractive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Prospective buyers had registered in advance with the city of Lier, which is responsible for issuing the permits. \u201cIt concerns three companies that are already active in Belgium and want to expand their activities here. A fourth company comes from abroad and is considering opening a branch in Belgium for the first time. The companies are active in maintenance, assembly, and production,\u201d Mayor Verwaest explained last weekend in Gazet van Antwerpen.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Golden opportunity<\/h4>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">&#8220;With our bid, we primarily wanted to ensure that new economic activities could be established quickly,&#8221; explains Diependaele.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Industrial sites have become scarce in Flanders and, moreover, highly fragmented. A large industrial site of 30 hectares, such as that of Van Hool, was therefore a golden opportunity for the Flemish government to attract a major investor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">&#8220;In the interest of our economy, such land must be repurposed for industrial development as soon as possible. To this end, we will now enter into consultation with the new owner and the local government as soon as possible.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>&#8216;No time to lose&#8217;<\/h4>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">The bankruptcy trustee of Van Hool still has to approve the bid, but\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">has until June 24 to refuse the transaction<\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">. With the proceeds, he can already pay off part of the debts <\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">of Immoroc, Van Hool&#8217;s real estate company.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">According to the employers&#8217; federation Voka, the land could generate up to 8,600 jobs and 1 billion euros in added value through a high-tech industrial investment.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">&#8220;The region needs rapid development of the Van Hool site.
