It does not mean that more than one in three electric vans sold in Europe are Kia models. The claim refers specifically to the electric C-segment, while ACEA’s public reports do not publish model-by-model rankings. The 37% should therefore be treated as Kia’s interpretation of European registration data rather than as a directly verifiable ACEA table.

Even so, the PV5’s rise is difficult to dismiss. In Britain, Kia registered 3,239 PV5 Cargo vans and 1,141 Passenger models during the first seven months of 2026.

The Cargo became the country’s best-selling electric van and helped Kia reach third place in the British electric light-commercial-vehicle market. In July alone, 784 Cargo and 235 Passenger versions were registered.

That is remarkable for a brand with no established European van business. Mercedes-Benz, Renault, Ford, Peugeot, Citroën, Opel, and Volkswagen already have large dealer networks, fleet contracts, and generations of experience with professional customers. Kia has entered their territory with a product developed from the outset as an EV.

Dedicated E-GMP.S platform

The dedicated E-GMP.S platform is probably its biggest advantage. With the battery under a flat floor, the 4.70-meter Cargo offers 4.4 cubic meters of space, room for two Euro pallets, and a loading sill only 419 millimeters high. The standard-range version can carry up to 790 kilograms, although payload falls to 690 kilograms with the larger battery.

That 71.2 kWh battery provides up to 416 kilometers of WLTP range and can be charged from 10 to 80% in about 30 minutes. The Mercedes eCitan reaches about 283 kilometers, the Renault Kangoo Van E-Tech 308 kilometers, and the updated Ford E-Transit Courier around 325 to 334 kilometers.

Opel’s Combo Electric, closely related to the Peugeot E-Partner and Citroën ë-Berlingo, offers up to 343 kilometers and the same maximum 4.4 cubic meters as the Kia.

Volkswagen’s ID. Buzz Cargo comes closest in range and dedicated-EV design, but provides 3.9 cubic meters and a maximum payload of about 650 kilograms. Larger vans such as the Ford E-Transit Custom, Mercedes eVito, and Renault Trafic E-Tech offer more volume and payload, but belong to the class above.

Not Europe’s cheapest

The Kia is not necessarily Europe’s cheapest electric van. Renault and the Stellantis brands regularly advertise lower entry prices, especially for shorter versions and discounted fleet models.

In Belgium, the PV5 Cargo starts at roughly €32,425 excluding VAT. Its appeal lies less in a bargain price than in its combination of range, usable space, charging speed, and equipment.

Kia is also selling more than a conventional panel van. The PV5 is available as Cargo, Passenger, and Chassis Cab, with Crew Van, high-roof, and conversion versions following. The company plans more than 40 PBV body types, with the larger PV7 due in 2027 and the PV9 in 2029.

There are compromises. The long-range PV5’s payload is only average, its 750-kilogram towing limit is modest, and its 2.26-meter load floor will not suit every builder. For heavy work, a medium-sized van remains the better tool.

For many fleets, however, the PV5 hits a useful middle ground. It is compact enough for urban work, large enough for serious deliveries, and capable of covering a working day without recharging. Add Kia’s seven-year vehicle warranty, an eight-year battery warranty, and its established EV reputation, and the popularity becomes easier to explain.

Kia has barely entered Europe’s commercial-vehicle market, yet its first electric van is already outselling models from manufacturers with decades of experience.
