<\/p>\nAt 11:00 on Friday morning, Hyundai Belux announced a new blacked-out flagship version of the Ioniq 9. At 11:02, Kia Belux followed with a Black Edition of the EV9. Two minutes apart, two large three-row electric SUVs, two black editions, and two brands belonging to the same Hyundai Motor Group. Coincidence?<\/p>\n
The interesting part is that Hyundai and Kia are nevertheless marketed and distributed through separate organizations in Belgium.<\/p>\n
A more plausible explanation is coordination higher up the chain: common Hyundai Motor Group product planning, closely aligned Model Year 2027 calendars, or a shared European embargo that left the two local organizations to issue their own announcements independently.<\/p>\n
Hyundai places the Calligraphy Black Ink above the existing Calligraphy, making it the new luxury flagship of the Ioniq 9 range.<\/p>\n

It gets a matte-black front emblem, exclusive black 21-inch alloy wheels, and gloss-black rear trim. Inside, the theme continues with black Nappa leather, a black leather steering wheel, and real aluminum dashboard trim finished in black.<\/p>\n
Belgian orders open immediately at \u20ac90,095, with first deliveries expected in September. The Belgian announcement focuses almost entirely on design and luxury rather than extra performance.<\/p>\n
In Hyundai’s broader European MY27 program, Black Ink is offered at the top of the range and, in Italy, exclusively with the 428 hp Performance AWD powertrain.<\/p>\n
The Ioniq 9 retains its 110.3 kWh battery, 800-volt architecture, and three-row cabin, with a WLTP range of up to 620 km depending on version and wheel size.<\/p>\n
Kia takes a slightly different approach with the EV9 Black Edition. Rather than becoming the most expensive EV9, it slots between Business Plus and GT Line. In Belgium, it costs \u20ac81,990, which is \u20ac3,100 more than the Business Plus AWD and \u20ac3,900 less than the GT Line.<\/p>\n
The blackout treatment is extensive. The grille surrounds, front and rear protection elements, side skirts, mirrors, roof rails, and Kia badges receive black finishes, complemented by exclusive 20-inch black wheels.<\/p>\n

The cabin features quilted black vegan leather, Relaxation front seats, driver memory and massage functions, a rear-view camera mirror, a head-up display, and black headlining.<\/p>\n
Unlike Hyundai, Kia also recalibrates the drivetrain. The 99.8 kWh dual-motor AWD system keeps its 283 kW (384 hp) output, but maximum torque rises from 600 to 700 Nm.<\/p>\n
That cuts the 0 to 100 km\/h time from 6.0 to 5.3 seconds, putting the Black Edition on par with the GT Line in acceleration. Its smaller 20-inch wheels also improve efficiency: Kia quotes 521 km WLTP and 21.7 kWh\/100 km, compared with 505 km and 22.8 kWh\/100 km for the 21-inch GT Line.<\/p>\n
The simultaneous announcements highlight how closely Hyundai and Kia can move without offering identical products. Both are large three-row electric SUVs from the same Korean group, both use 800-volt technology, and both are receiving a dark, more exclusive derivative for Model Year 2027.<\/p>\n
Hyundai uses Black Ink to stretch the Ioniq 9 further into premium territory, topping \u20ac90,000 and emphasizing Nappa leather and visual exclusivity.<\/p>\n
Kia uses its Black Edition as a more value-conscious bridge toward the GT Line, while the extra torque makes the upgrade more than cosmetic.<\/p>\n
