A newcomer in the electric segment that is impossible to ignore. The setting, in San Francisco, might seem fitting for a 5.2-meter-long behemoth. But here’s the thing: it is heading toward Europe as the largest battery-electric vehicle you can buy.

The GV90 is the production version of the Neolun concept Genesis showed in 2024. Most concept cars get watered down so heavily that you need a magnifying glass to spot the family resemblance. Not this one. The proportions, the two-line LED signature, the 24-inch wheels, and the sheer visual mass all made it through the corporate meat grinder intact.

Up to seven passengers

The standard GV90 is a three-row electric SUV with dual-motor all-wheel drive. It packs roughly 657 hp and a battery pack as beefy as 120 kWh. The range is claimed at roughly 500 kilometers. But the standard version is only half the story.

The real headline is the GV90 Neolun. This top-tier variant is where Genesis is showing off all the tricks it has up its sleeve: rear-hinged coach doors open without a fixed B-pillar, a layout that used to be the exclusive territory of Rolls-Royce.

The front seats swivel 180 degrees. The interior mixes real wood, actual stone trim, and heated floors. This is, by any reasonable definition, a lounge on wheels. It can move up to seven passengers.

Two limited-slip differentials

To compensate for the loss of rigidity caused by the pillarless passenger compartment, Genesis uses reinforced steel beams in the doors and has strengthened the frame, which is 1.5 times thicker than usual. According to the brand, the car’s safety is on par with the conventional standard version.

Beneath the theatrical doors and pop-up 24.6-inch cinematic display, there is serious hardware. The platform, eMP, has been specifically designed for this model and features air suspension, rear-wheel steering, and not one but two limited-slip differentials as standard.

The roof-mounted airbag is a world first. It is triggered during rollover and must prevent passengers from coming into contact with the huge panoramic roof.

No start button

Genesis is also teasing a secret high-tech interface called Connect W, though details remain scarce. The dashboard features one big central screen without a separate cluster for the driver. They look at a head-up display to read actual speed or navigation info.

The starting sequence is peculiar as well. Touching one of the door handles powers up the GV90, the steering wheel moves into position, and driving is ready once you push the brake pedal. A start button has been eliminated.

Who’s on the radar?

This is the type of SUV you automatically expect in China and the US. Not in the least, because it won’t be the easiest vehicle to park. But Genesis confirmed European availability, slated for next year.

That means selected markets, as the brand is busy expanding its presence on the continent. The brand officially launched in France, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands early this year, with first deliveries already underway. That is a major step up from the initial focus on Germany, the UK, and Switzerland. Distribution in Belgium is not yet on the radar.

Pricing will fall in the $110,000-$160,000 range (€95,350-€138,690) in the US. Convert that to euros, add VAT, and you are looking at a six-figure sum that parks the GV90 squarely against the BMW iX and Mercedes EQS SUV.

Genesis was founded only eight years ago, but hasn’t been unsuccessful, even though it isn’t a common sight on European roads. It has already sold 1 million units since its launch.

Genesis just pulled the wraps off its GV90 flagship SUV.
