North America will lean on hybrids, range-extender EVs and body-on-frame trucks, while Europe remains focused on battery-electric growth.

At its 2026 CEO Investor Day in Seoul, Hyundai repeated its target of 5.55 million global Hyundai and Genesis sales by 2030, roughly 35% more than in 2025. Electrified vehicles, including hybrids, should account for 60% of the total.

The “more than 100” figure needs perspective. Hyundai says it will launch or refresh 58 vehicles in North America, 49 in Korea, 41 in Europe, 26 in India and 22 in China.

Those regional numbers overlap and include facelifts and derivatives. More revealing is that at least 18 products will take Hyundai into segments where it currently has little or no presence.

Europe: 420,000 EVs by 2030

Europe is where Hyundai is keeping the clearest course toward battery-electric vehicles. The company wants to cover 85% of the European market with a fully electrified portfolio, including five all-new SUVs and light commercial vehicles. Battery-electric sales should rise from 116,000 units in 2025 to more than 420,000 in 2030.

That is an increase of more than 260% in five years, while several rivals are slowing EV investments or adding more hybrids.

Hyundai Europe had already said every model in its line-up would offer an electrified version by 2027, with five new models arriving within 18 months, three of them in the B-segment.

The new Ioniq 3 is the first concrete step. It goes on sale in Europe this month, offering up to 497 km of range and introducing Hyundai Group’s new Pleos Connect infotainment system. Hyundai also confirms an all-new B-segment SUV developed specifically for Europe, although it has not revealed its name.

Together with the Inster at the bottom and the Ioniq 9 at the top, the strategy is increasingly about filling every gap between affordable urban EV and large family car.

America chooses another route

Across the Atlantic, Hyundai is adapting to a market where long distances, charging gaps and policy uncertainty are slowing the transition to full EVs.

By 2030, it plans to offer more than 10 hybrid models in North America, with hybrids expected to account for around half of regional sales.

The most striking addition is the Santa Fe EREV, due in the first half of 2027 and built in Alabama. Its petrol engine primarily acts as an onboard generator while electric motors drive the wheels. Hyundai promises more than 600 miles, or roughly 965 km, of combined range.

The company says its new in-house battery cells provide more than twice the output of its previous high-nickel cells and can charge 40% faster.

Because an EREV does not need the large battery of a long-range BEV, Hyundai says it can use less than half the battery capacity of a comparable pure-electric car.

Genesis follows the same path: the GV80 gets the brand’s first hybrid in the fourth quarter, followed by an EREV SUV with more than 640 miles of range in early 2027.

Trucks and vans fill the gaps

Hyundai also wants a slice of lucrative segments it has largely ignored. Pickups, large SUVs, and light commercial vehicles account for roughly 29% of the global market in areas where Hyundai has little presence.

A new body-on-frame architecture will underpin a midsize pickup, while commercial vehicles and other rugged models are also planned. The latter fits into a broader Hyundai Motor Group push.

Sister brand Kia has already entered the electric van market with the PV5 and plans to extend its dedicated PBV range with the larger PV7 in 2027 and PV9 in 2029.

Kia wants to sell about 133,000 of these vehicles annually in Europe by 2030, suggesting that commercial vehicles are becoming a genuine new pillar for the Korean group rather than a side project.

For Europe, however, Hyundai’s diversification does not signal a retreat from EVs. Hyundai is using regional flexibility as a hedge.

America gets more combustion-assisted electrification where customers demand range and towing capability; Europe gets the denser BEV portfolio required by regulation and a more mature charging market.

That may be the key message from Hyundai’s product blitz. Rather than declaring one technology the winner, it is building different roads to 2030 – and in Europe, that road still runs predominantly on batteries.

Hyundai is preparing the biggest product offensive in its history, with more than 100 launches and model updates planned worldwide by 2030, including 41 for Europe alone.
