<\/p>\nRenault is testing just how far its diamond badge can stretch into premium territory. The new Rafale Hypnotic will cost \u20ac60,500 in Belgium and be limited to 1,500 numbered cars across Europe.<\/p>\n
But beneath the exclusive satin-black finish, there is no extra horsepower: mechanically, it remains the same 300-hp Rafale Atelier Alpine.<\/p>\n

That makes the Hypnotic more interesting as a positioning exercise than as a technical novelty. Renault has spent the past few years moving back into the more profitable C- and D-segments with the Austral, Espace and Rafale. Now it is adding scarcity and exclusivity to see whether customers are prepared to pay still more for its flagship.<\/p>\n
Belgian orders open on October 1, with first deliveries scheduled before the end of 2026. The 1,500 cars will be divided between 14 European markets.<\/p>\n
Hypnotic is based on the Rafale E-Tech hyper-hybrid 4×4 300 Atelier Alpine, which currently starts at \u20ac57,200 in Belgium. The \u20ac60,500 limited edition therefore adds \u20ac3,300 to Renault’s regular flagship price.<\/p>\n
For that, buyers get an exclusive satin Forest Black finish, a darker front end and grille, black spoilers and Atelier Alpine badging, and specific 21-inch wheels.<\/p>\n

Inside, Renault combines black Alcantara and textured fabric with blue, white and red stitching, while every car receives its own numbered plaque.<\/p>\n
The standard equipment is also generous. The Solarbay panoramic glass roof, head-up display, heated windscreen and Harman Kardon audio system are included.<\/p>\n
What it does not receive is more performance. Underneath, the Hypnotic retains the Atelier Alpine’s plug-in hybrid system, combining a combustion engine with three electric motors for a total of 300 hp. Renault quotes up to 105 km of electric WLTP range.<\/p>\n

It also inherits the genuinely unusual hardware that makes the top Rafale more than a cosmetic sports version: four-wheel drive, 4Control Advanced four-wheel steering and camera-controlled predictive suspension, with chassis development carried out by Alpine Cars engineers.<\/p>\n
Renault may have good reasons to believe there is room above the regular Atelier Alpine. Earlier this year, the company revealed that no less than 90% of Belgian Rafale customers choose the Esprit Alpine or Atelier Alpine versions.<\/p>\n
That is unusually strong evidence that buyers attracted to Renault’s flagship are already willing to move towards the expensive end of the configurator. The Hypnotic takes that logic one step further.<\/p>\n
It is also part of a broader attempt by Renault to rebuild a presence higher up the market. Austral, Espace and Rafale helped Renault’s global C- and D-segment sales grow by 7.9% to 444,000 cars in 2025, while the brand increasingly stresses higher-value versions rather than simply chasing volume.<\/p>\n
The Hypnotic, therefore, does not need to sell in large numbers \u2014 Renault has deliberately made that impossible. Its role is different: making a \u20ac60,000-plus Renault look desirable rather than unusual.<\/p>\n
Whether customers see a numbered plaque, special paint and additional equipment as sufficient reason to pay above an already sophisticated Atelier Alpine remains to be seen.<\/p>\n
But with nine out of ten Belgian Rafale buyers already opting for the higher trim levels, Renault appears increasingly confident that it can raise its traditional price ceiling.<\/p>\n
