As days grow shorter and winter approaches, the regional public service Brussels Mobility urges drivers to make children and young people more visible on the road. Starting October 15, the organization will launch several awareness-raising campaigns.<\/span><\/p>\n

For several years, Brussels Mobility has observed that accidents involving pedestrians during the evening rush hour (between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.) more than double after switching to winter time. Injuries among cyclists and electric scooter users also increase during this period.<\/span><\/p>\n

‘Be Bright’ campaign<\/h4>\n

The organization continues to encourage people to keep walking and cycling year-round, while urging them to exercise extra caution as the days grow shorter.<\/span><\/p>\n

For this reason, Brussels Mobility is launching a new edition of the ‘Be Bright’ campaign today, October 15, aimed at schools participating in School Travel Plans. <\/span>This year, 65 schools are taking part in the initiative, with 5,347 students and staff members set to travel to school by bicycle today.<\/span><\/p>\n

At each participating school, staff and students were welcomed this morning with breakfast. They also received items to increase their visibility in traffic, such as spoke reflectors and bicycle lights.<\/span><\/p>\n

‘XP Visibility’ campaign<\/h4>\n

From November 16 to 20, Brussels Mobility is once again organizing the ‘XP Visibility’ campaign, an interactive, hands-on experiential activity in which 5th- and 6th-grade students experiment for themselves with light and darkness, and with seeing and being seen.<\/span><\/p>\n

Brussels Mobility also reminds motorists of a few basic rules, such as adjusting their speed to anticipate unexpected situations and remaining extra vigilant at intersections and pedestrian crossings.<\/span><\/p>\n

For your information: this year, winter time begins on Sunday, October 25, at 3:00 a.m. \u2013 that is, during the night from Saturday, October 24, to Sunday, October 25.
